DNA transposon

Ang mga DNA transposon ay mga sekwensiyang DNA, minsan tinatawag na “tumatalon na hene”, na maaaring lumipat at pumaloob sa ibat-ibang lokasyon ng isang genome o henoma.[1] Kabilang sila sa mga class II transposable elements (TE), na lumilipat sa pamamagitan ng isang DNA na intermediya, sa halip na RNA na intermediya, na ginagamit naman ng mga class I Ts na mga retrotransposon.[2] Ang mga DNA transposon ay maaaring pumasok sa DNA ng isang organismo sa pamamagitan ng isa o dalawang-strandong DNA na intermediya. Ang mga DNA transposon ay matatagpuan sa kapwa eukaryote at prokaryote na organismo. Sa mga prokaryote, pinapadali ng mga TE ang pahalang na paglipat (horizontal transfer o lateral gene transfer) ng resistensya sa antibiyotiko at pati na rin ang mga hene na may kaugnayan sa birulensiya.
