Ang Castel Mella (Castelnuovo hanggang 1864; lokal Castèl Mèlö) ay isang comune (komuna o munisipalidad) sa lalawigan ng Brescia, sa Lombardia, Italya.

Heograpiya

Ito ay nasa kapatagan sa timog-kanluran ng Brescia, sa ilog ng Mella. Ito ay napapaligiran ng mga komuna ng Brescia, Flero, Capriano del Colle, at Roncadelle.

Pinagmulan ng pangalan

Ang toponimong Castel Mella ay nangangahulugang "nayon sa pampang ng Mella" at dapat na ihiwalay sa "Castello" (mula sa Latin na castellum diminutive ng castrum, "pinatibay na nayon") at Mella (pangalan ng Ligur-Selta na pinagmulan, na nagpapahiwatig ng isang "magulo at nagngangalit na batis".[4]

Sa paglipas ng mga siglo, ang "nayon sa pampang ng Mella" ay pinangalanan sa iba't ibang paraan: Castellum Novum (ika-12 siglo), Castrum Novum de ultra Mellam (ika-13 siglo), Castelnovo Bressano (ika-16 na siglo), Castel Novo at Castelnuovo (ika-19 na siglo), Castel Mella (may maharlikang dekreto 1795/1864 ni Vittorio Emanuele II).[5][6]
