Bit array

Ang bit array o bitmap o bitset bitstring ay isang array (estruktura ng datos) na siksik na nag-iimbak(store) ng mga indibidwal na bit(halagang boolean). Ito ay nag-iimplementa ng isang simpleng hanay na nag-iimbak ng isang pang-ilalim na hanay(subset) ng {1,2,...,n} at epektibo sa paggamit ng lebel na bit na parelilismo sa hardware upang mabilis na makapagsagawa ng mga operasyon. Ang isang tipikal na bit array ay nag-iimbak ng mga bit na kw kung saan ang w ang bilang ng mga bit sa unit ng imbakan(storage) gaya ng byte o word at ang k ay isang hindi negatibong intedyer. Kung ang w ay hindi humahati sa bilang ng mga bit na iimbakin, ang isang espasyo ay maaksaya sanhi ng panloob na pragmentasyon.
