Basra

Ang Basra o Al-Baṣrah (Arabe: البصرة; tinatawag ding Al Basrah o 'Basorah) ay ang kabisera ng Lalawigan ng Basra, Irak, at nagkaroon ng tinatayang populasyong 3,800,200 noong 2009.[1] Pangunahing daungan din ng Irak ang Basra, bagaman wala itong kakayahang pasukan na pangmalalim na katubigan, na pinangangasiwaan sa puwerto ng Umm Qasr. Makasaysayang lokasyon ang lungsod ng Sumer, ang tahanan ni Sinbad na Mandaragat, at isang iminungkahing lokasyon ng Halamanan ng Eden. Nagkaroon din ito ng gampanin sa maagang kasaysayan ng Islam, dahil sa pagkakatatag nito sa loob ng 636 CE (Pangkaraniwang Panahon), o 14 AH. Ito ang pangalawang pinakamalaki at pinakamataong lungsod na kasunod ng Baghdad.
