The Skatalites — ямайская ска-группа.

История

Группа была основана в 1963 году на Ямайке, хотя музыканты уже играли друг с другом с середины 1950-х годов в качестве сессионных музыкантов. По словам Ллойда Бреветта[англ.], их приятель Лорд Танамо[англ.] предложил название Satellites[1], а Томми Маккук[англ.] сделал шутливую игру слов с названием стиля музыки — Skatalites, и это название было принято[2]. Первое выступление состоялось в мае 1964 года на сцене кингстонского клуба Hi-Hat[3].

В январе 1965 года Дон Драммонд[англ.] был арестован по обвинению в убийстве своей подруги. Позже, в том же году, Skatalites распались на две группы: Soul Vendors (лидер Альфонсо) и Supersonics (лидер Маккук)[2].
