Suhl é uma cidade da Alemanha localizada no estado da Turíngia.[1] A cidade foi saqueada diversas vezes durante a Guerra dos Trinta Anos. Devido à importância industrial, ela foi invadida por uma tropa estadunidense em Abril de 1945, entretanto uma força soviética assumiu a administração da cidade logo ao fim da II Guerra Mundial. Sendo um polo sudoeste importante da RDA durante a Guerra Fria. ²
Suhl é uma cidade independente (Kreisfreie Städte) ou distrito urbano (Stadtkreis), ou seja, possui estatuto de distrito (kreis). É historicamante recordada como um polo industrial, sobretudo no campo de cutelaria e das armas de fogo, tanto de uso militar quanto civil. Notáveis exemplos de empresas deste setor foram J.P. Sauer & Sohn, Simson Co., e continuam no ramo C.G. Haenel, Merkel, Ziegenhan & Sohn.
