Mantelete

Mantelete (do francês mantelet) era um grande escudo de madeira, montado sobre rodas ou cilindros, que avançava gradualmente, oferecendo proteção aos soldados que atacavam uma fortaleza enquanto se aproximavam das muralhas.[1] Na Roma Antiga, recebia o nome de plúteo (em latim: pluteus).[2] Era feito de cercas e coberto com peles cruas, que podia ser movido para a frente por pequenas rodas a ele acopladas.[3]
