Localizacion de l'illa de Texel respècte als Païses Basses

Texel (Tessel en frison, prononciat 'Tèssel' en neerlandés) es la mai granda de las Illas Frisonas e tanben la pus occidentala. Es situada entre la Mar de Wadden (al levant) e la Mar del Nòrd (al ponent), al sud de l'illa de Vlieland e al nòrd de la província d'Olanda Septentrionala, que ne fa partida administrativament. L'estrech de Marsdiep la separa de Den Helder, sus la tèrra ferma.

L'illa tota forma una sola comuna amb una superfícia de 585,96 km² que 416,14 ne son d'aiga. L'illa fa 20 km de long e 8 de larg. En 2004 teniá una populacion de 13 735 abitants.

Texel e Eierland

L'actuala illa de Texel es constituida de doas illas (ancianament separadas): Texel al sud e Eierland al nòrd. En 1630 foguèt acabada la levada de sabla (Zanddijk) unissent las doas illas. En 1835 Nicolas Joseph De Cock formèt una societat anonima amb l'objectiu de convertir las estendudas descobèrtas per las marèas entre ambdoas en pòlders. Sul nòu pòlder se fondèt un vilatge, inicialament batejat Nieuwdorp (Vila nòva), mas que posteriorament foguèt rebatejat en onor del sieu fondador: De Cocksdorp.
