Tagma

Un tagma (tagmata au plurau) èra una unitat tactica bizantina tenent lo ròtle d'un batalhon ò d'un regiment modèrne. Dau sègle VIII au sègle XI, lei tagmata formèron l'armada permanenta de l'Empèri per oposicion ai tèmas, unitats popularas e territòrialas. Èran normalament plaçats sota l'autoritat dirècta de l'emperaire e utilizables per totei lei tipes d'operacions militaras. Lo còst d'aquela armada permanenta èra fòrça importanta per lei finanças imperialas e, amb l'afebliment de Constantinòble, recebèron pauc a cha pauc de tèrras ò d'esclaus coma complements de paga. L'institucion dei tagmata conoguèt son apogèu au sègle X e declinèt lentament amb lei desfachas de la fin dau sègle XI. Dispareguèt dins lo corrent dau sègle XII, a l'excepcion de quauquei formacions d'elèit coma la garda varega, e lo tèrme foguèt aplicat a totei leis unitats militaras bizantinas que que siegue sa natura e son origina.
