Sun Microsystems

Sun Microsystems, Inc èra una entrepresa informatica de Silicon Valley, fabricant de semiconductors e logicial. Foguèt creada l'an 1982 per l'alemand Andreas von Bechtolsheim e los nòrd-americanes Vinod Koshla, Bill Joy e Scott McNealy.[1] Lo 27 de genièr de 2010, Sun foguèt aquerida per Oracle Corporation dels USA per 7.400 milions de dolars,[2]

Las siglas SUN derivan de "Standford University NetWork" (ret de la Universitat de Stanford), projècte creat per connectar mejançant una ret las bibliotècas de Standford. Sun èra un defensor del logicial liure en general e Unix en particular, e un dels principals provedidors de còdi dobèrt de logicial.
