Pèsta
La pèsta (dau latin pestis, « malautiá contagiosa ») es una malautiá que pòu aver d'efiechs diferents e qu'es mortala per l'uman. Es causada per Yersinia pestis, una bacteria descubèrta per Alexandre Yersin de l'Institut Pasteur en 1894, qu'es tanben responsable de patologias dei paumons pas tant grèvas en de pichons mamifèrs e d'animaus de companhiá (dins aqueu cas si ditz pèsta sauvatja). Es principalament veïculada per un garri, lo Rattus rattus, que la transmet a l'uman per de nieras infectadas (niera dau garri Xenopsylla cheopsis dins lei país cauds coma Índia, ò Nosopsyllus fasciatus en Euròpa). Lei rosigaires sauvatges constituisson la sèrvia naturala de la malautiá. Lei lagomòrfs (lapin, lèbre) e carnivòrs pòdon infectar l'uman per lo contacte amb un animau infectat ò la mordedura d'un animau infectat.
Per lei devastacions que causèt, sustot a l'Atge Mejan, la pèsta aguèt de consequéncias importantas dins l'economia, la religion e leis arts. La pèsta negra es una epidemia d'aquela epòca. Pasmens, mai que d'una epidemia de malautiás inconeissudas de mortalitat fòrta posquèt èsser qualificada de pèsta per lei cronistas de l'epòca. Per analogia, d'autrei malautiás de fòrta mortalitat en d'autreis espècias son tanben nomadas pèsta, coma la pèsta de l'anet ò la pèsta porcina, qu'an per la màger part ren de comun ambé la pèsta umana.
