Pau V

Pau V (17 de setembre de 1550 - 28 de genier de 1621) foguèt lo papa de la Glèisa Catolica Romana dau 16 de mai de 1605 a sa mòrt. Succediguèt a Leon XI (abriu de 1605) e foguèt remplaçat per Gregòri XV (1621-1623).

Originari de l'ostau Borghese, venguèt cardinau en 1596 après d'estudis de drech canonic qu'aguèron una influéncia importanta sus son accion. D'efècte, elegit papa en 1605, son pontificat foguèt marcat per una aplicacion estricta d'aqueu drech en aplicacion dei decrèts dau Concili de Trent. En particular, ordonèt ais evesques de demorar dins sei diocèsis puei luchèt per mantenir lo regime d'exempcion eclesiastic, ço qu'anava entraïnar divèrsei conflictes ambé lei ciutats-estats italianas. Per exemple, tre 1605, prononcièt una excomunicacion còntra la Republica de Venècia e seis institucions. Laissèt tanben la Glèisa condamnar lei trabalhs de Copernic.
