PHP es un lengatge de programacion interpretat que s'utiliza per generar paginas web de forma dinamica. S'executa al servidor, per aquel motiu al navigador web lo li arriba ja la pagina en format HTML, podent pas ne visualizar lo còdi php. Malgrat qu'es mens popular, pòt tanben s'utilizar per generar interfícies de comandas e d'aplicacions executables amb interfície grafica. Dispausa de versions tant per Windows com per GNU/Linux, aital coma d'autras.
PHP se distribuissi jos la licéncia PHP, que la Free Software Foundation qualifica coma logicial liure. Las siglas son un acronim recursiva de PHP: Hipertext Preprocessor, malgrat que originalment èran las siglas de Personal Home Page Tools.
