Avram Noam Chomsky (Хомський en ucraïnian (AFI: [ˈχomski]) (nascut a Filadèlfia en Pensilvània lo 7 de decembre de 1928) es un lingüista e un pensaire politic estatsunidenc.

Professor de Lingüistica de l'Institut Tecnologic de Massachusetts, desvolopèt la Gramatica generativa e transformacionala.

Contribuiguèt a la revolucion de la psicologia cognitiva amb l'òbra Conducha Verbala, revision de l'òbra de B. F. Skinner, ont questiona l'aprochament conductista a l'estudi sus la ment e sul lengatge, dominant dins los ans 1950.

Sa vision naturalista sus l'estudi del lengatge a tanben influenciat la filosofia del lengatge e la filosofia de la ment. Establiguèt un classament dels lengatges formals en tèrmes de lor poder generatiu, apelat «Ierarquia de Chomsky».

En mai de son òbra lingüistica, Chomsky es reputat per sa defensa de la libertat d'expression, per son activisme politic, e per sa critica de la politica exteriora dels Estats Units e d'autres govèrns. Se considèra coma un socialista libertari simpatizant de l'anarcosindicalisme.
