Millet

Millet èra un tèrme otoman que designava una comunautat religion protegida au sen de l'Empèri Otoman. Lei millets èran dotats :

  • d'un cap reconegut per lo poder otoman qu'èra l'intermediari unic entre la comunautat e lo govèrn. Aqueu cap èra generalament lo cap religiós de la comunautat (sultan otoman per lei sunitas, imam suprèm per leis Alèvis, patriarcas, evesques e catholicos per lei diferentei Glèisas... etc.).
  • de tribunaus pròpris.
  • de drechs e de sistèmas d'impòsts diferents.

Lei millets avián una autonòmia larga permetent d'adoptar lei sieunas lèis (subretot en matèria d'estatut personau). Dins lo corrent dau sègle XIX, d'assembladas laïcas foguèron creadas au sen de cada millet. Aqueu sistèma permetèt l'emergéncia d'elèits non musulmanas au sen de l'Empèri Otoman que participèron a la gestion deis afaires de l'Empèri.
