Martin Chalfie (n. en 1947) es un bioquimista american. A recebut lo Prèmi Nobel de Quimia en 2008 per los sieus trabalhs sus la proteïna verda fluorescenta.

Biografia

Naissèt en 1947 dins la vila de Chicago, situada dins l'estat d'Illinois. Estudièt la neurobiologia a l'Universitat de Harvard e foguèt posteriorament professor de l'Universitat de Columbia.

Recèrca scientifica

Interessat pel desvolopament e las foncions de las neurònas, realizèt d'importantas experiéncias a partir del nematoïde Caenorhabditis elegans. Aital, amb la descobèrta de la proteïna verda fluorescenta (GFP) pel japonés Osamu Shimomura poguèt, amb Roger Yonchien Tsien, estudiar los fenomèns biologics d'aquela proteïna mejançant la coloracion de las cellulas.

En 2008, amb Shimomura e Tsien, foguèt premiat amb lo Prèmi Nobel de Quimia per los sieus estudis sus la GFP.
