Justinian Ièr (30 de mai de 483 - 25 de novembre de 565), o Justinian lo Grand, èra un emperaire bizantin que reinèt de 527 a 565. Foguèt un dei caps politics e militars pus importants de l'Antiquitat finala e sus lei plans legislatiu, militar e religiós, realizèt una òbra immensa durant sa vida.

Son rèine foguèt marcat per lo projècte ambiciós de « restauracion de l'Empèri » que foguèt parcialament cumplit ambé lei conquistas d'Itàlia (Guèrra dei Gòts), dau reiaume vandal dau nòrd d'Africa e dau sud d'Espanha. Son rèine aguèt de consequéncias pus importantas per l'uniformizacion dau drech roman. Enfin, marquèt un periòde d'activitat artistica excepcionau que veguèt lo començament de la bastida de la basilicia Santa Sofia que venguèt lo centre de l'Ortodoxia pendent de sègles. Per aquelei rasons, lo periòde de Justinian es considerat coma l'apogèu de l'Empèri Bizantin.

Es un sant de la Glèisa Orientala.
