Jacques-Louis David (nascut en 1748, m.1825) foguèt un pintre francés qu'influencièt lo desvolopament de l'estil neoclassic, e considerat coma lo pus important pintre de l'epòca. Dins las annadas 1780 son interpretacion fòrça cerebrala de la pintura istorica marquèt un cambiament, qu'alunhèt de la frivolitat del rococó e evoluïguèt cap a la severitat e l'austeritat, en adequacion amb lo clima moral dels darrièrs ans del Regim Ancian.

Un pauc pus tard, David venguèt un partisan actiu de la Revolucion Francesa e amic de Maximilien de Robespierre, se convertissent en una mena de dictador de las arts sota la Republica. Empresonat a la casuda de Robespierre, tardèt pas a s'alinhar amb lo regim emergissent, lo de l'Empèri novèl de Napoleon Ièr. A aquesta epòca desvolopèt l'Estil Empèri, notable per l'usatge de caudas colors venecianas. Aguèt un grand nombre de discípols que ne faguèronvan lo personatge mai influent de l'art francés al sègle XIX, especialament per la pintura academica de salon.
