Las genetas son de carnivòrs nocturns del continent african levat la geneta comuna, europèa (que seriá introducha pels moros o los romans).
En 2003 foguèt descricha (sus d'analisis genetics) una novèla espèci la geneta de Bourlon (Genetta bourloni), que viu dins lo bòsc de Guinèa.
