Dromon

Pintura dau sègle XIX representant un grop de dromons imaginats per lo pintre Rafael Monleon.

Un dromon es un tipe de galèra que foguèt utilizat per l'Empèri Bizantin durant l'Edat Mejana, en particular entre lei sègles VII e XII. Aviá una longor de 30 a 50 mètres, una largor de 5 a 7 mètres e un equipatge de 300 personas. Tres classas diferentas èran definidas en foncion de la talha. La màger part dei dromons èran equipats de sistèmas permetent la mesa en òbra dau fuòc grèc e l'utilizacion d'armas de sètge. Fòrça dromons avián tanben de blindatges constituits de placas metallicas destinadas a protegir lo naviri còntra leis esperons enemics.

Lei dromons inspirèron la construccion de galèras en Mediterranèa. Dins la flòta bizantina, foguèt remplaçat a partir dau començament dau sègle XII per de naviris utilizant una propulsion velica. Dispareguèron definitiviament amb lo declin de l'Empèri Bizantin consecutiu a la presa de Constantinòble per lei Crosats en 1204.
