Existís una gròssa varietat de distribucions, que caduna a seis objectius e sa filosofia particulars. Leis elements que diferencián principalament lei distribucions son : la convivialitat (facilitat de mesa en òbra), l'integracion (talha dau pargue de logiciaus validats distribuits), la notorietat (comunautat informativa per resòuvre lei problèmas), l'environament de burèu (GNOME, KDE...), lo tipe de paquet que s'utiliza per distribuir un logiciau (principalament deb e RPM) e lo mantenor de la distribucion (generalament una entrepresa o una comunautat).
