Craton

Un craton es una vasta porcion establa dau domeni continental, per oposicion ai zònas instabli deformadi e ai zònas oceaniqui. De mai, lu cratons son de regions anciani que datan dau Precambrian. Son compauats d'una partida superiora facha de ròcas plutoniqui (granitoïdes, etc) ò metamorfiqui (gnèis, etc.) e d'una partida inferiora que s'enfonsa de 30 a 45 km dins lo manteu. La susfàcia es sovent recubèrta de sediments. La màger part dei cratons an donc l'aspècte de peneplanas que s'estendon sus de centenaus de quilomètres.

Lu cratons an sovent una identitat pròpria en tèrmes de ròcas e d'estructuras geologiqui. Per aquela rason, sovent de regions d'interès per li companhiás minieri car contènon sovent de concentracions importanti de metals e de minerals preciós.
