Canac
Los canac son los abitants indigèns melanesians de la Nòva Caledònia, una collectivitat d'otramar de França situada dins lo sud-oèst del Pacific. Segon lo recensament de 2014, representan 39,1% de la populacion totala, siá aperaquí 104 000 personas.
Emai que de colonias melanesianas sián repertoriadas sus la presqu'illa de Foué de Grande Terre e remontan a la cultura lapita, l'origina del pòble canac es pas clara. Las recercas etnograficas mostrèron que los marins polinesians se maridèron amb de canac durant de sègles. Los canac nomenan Caldoches los europèus de la Nòva Caledònia.
La Nòva Caledònia foguèt annexada a França en 1853 e ne venguèt un territòri d'otra-mar en 1956. Un movement d'independéncia menèt a una revòlta mancada en 1967 e foguèt reviscolat en 1984, perseguissent l'estatut d'independéncia totala de la dominacion francesa.
