Lo breton (autonim: brezhoneg, AFI: [breˈzɔ̃ːnek])[1] es una lenga celtica parlada en Bretanha. Es l'unica lenga celtica encara practicada sul continent europèu, emai apertenga al grop insular.[2]

Geografia

Lo territòri actual ont la lenga bretona es parlada se situa dins la partida occidentala de la peninsula bretona. Aquel territòri, la Bassa Bretanha (Breizh izel), s'opausa a la Nauta Bretanha, ont se parla un dialècte d'oïl, lo galò.

La frontièra entre breton e dialèctes romanics foguèt movedissa. Aprèp una fasa d'espandiment entre los sègles V e X, lo breton arrestèt pas de recuolar cap a oèst. Es aital que de regions de la toponimia bretona son de lenga romanica a l'ora d'ara.

Istòria

Lo breton es una lenga celtica de la branca britonica, pròcha del galés e del cornic.
