Lo berret o boneta es un cobrecap, un capèl sople de feutre, sens visièra ni bòrd, generalament plan e sovent ornat d'una mena de mamelon central.

Contràriament a çò que se crei sovent, lo berret es pas d'origina basca mas bearnesa. Lo mot berret proven en efièch del nom bearnés (gascon) berret, d'ont l'expression "Lo berret qu'ei bearnés !" : Lo berret es bearnés. Se pòt visitar lo Musèu del Berret a Nai, en Bearn.
A l'origina, èra l'atribut del pastor : protector contra lo freg o la pluèja, serviá per amassar los campairòls, o coma recipient per las castanhas caudas a fin d'evitar de se cramar los dets al canton.
