Avenc
Un avenc es un cròs caracteristic de las regions carsticas dels Grands Causses, plan sovent format per l'esfondrament de la vòuta d'una cavitat karstica degut a la dissolucion dels jaces calcaris.
Es una cavitat que se dobrís dins lo sòl e que presenta mai que mai la forma d'un potz vertical de mal accedir. Las dimensions de l'obertura superficiala d'aquelas cavitats badivas son variablas: de qualques decimètres entrò a 200 m ; aital meteis lor prigondor pòt èsser enòrma.
Los avencs de granda prigondor e/o d'una obertura fòrça larga recebon d'unes còps lo nom d'«abís» o «abisme». Sinonim: iga.
