Arboish

Arboish (Arbouix en francés) qu’ei ua comuna de Bigòrra, reünida a Airòs per eth rei deus francés en 1846. Era comuna fusionada qu’ei aperada Airòs e Arboish.

Toponimia

Era prononciacion qu'ei [ar'bouch] (grafia fonetica deths autors). Eras fòrmas ancianas que son : Arbox ath sègle XII o XIII, De Arboys en 1313 e 1349, De Arboxio, en latin en 1342, d'Arboxis, en latin, en 1379, Arboix en 1406 e en 1429, Arbouix en 1790, Arbouch en 1790, Arbouix (mapa de Cassini, ara fin deth sègle XVIII)[1].

Segon R. Aymard, Arboish qu'ei un derivat de buxus, « boish », dab un prefixe Ar qui a eth sens de « près de », segon l'exemple de Biost e Arbiost[1].

Miquèu Grosclaude qu'arrefusa era ipotèsi d'Aymard, a despièit dera présencia dens era comuna d'un vilatge nommat Boish. Segon eth autor, eth prefixe ar- qu'ei totaument desconeishut en gascon e era toponimia basca, « eretèra dera lenga aquitana » (sic), qu'a pas cap prefixe. Eth nom qu'ei escur e un quite rapòrt dab boish, « buxus » qu'ei mausegur[1].
