Xmas

Xmas (juga X-mas) ialah singkatan biasa bagi perkataan Krismas. Ia kadangkala disebut /ˈɛksməs/, tetapi Xmas, dan varian seperti Xtemass, berasal sebagai singkatan tulisan tangan untuk sebutan tipikal /ˈkrɪsməs/. 'X' berasal daripada huruf Yunani Chi, iaitu huruf pertama perkataan Yunani Christós (Yunani: Χριστός, translit. Khristós, hrf. "anointed, covered in oil"), yang menjadi Kristus dalam bahasa Inggeris.[1] Akhiran -mas ialah daripada perkataan Inggeris Lama yang berasal dari Latin untuk Mass.[2][3]
