Tainui

Tainui adalah merupakan konfederasi waka puak Māori iwi di New Zealand. Konfederasi ini merangkumi empat kawasan berkaitan Māori iwi di tengah Pulau Utara New Zealand: Hauraki, Ngāti Maniapoto, Ngāti Raukawa dan Waikato. Kesemua iwi ini berkongsi keturunan dari pendatang Polinesia yang sampai ke New Zealand dengan Tainui waka, yang merantau melintasi Lautan Pasifik dari Hawaiki sehingga Aotearoa (Pulau Utara) pada kira-kira 800 tahun dahulu. Menurut Pei Te Hurinui Jones, sejarawan Tainui, Tainui pertama kali memasuki Waikato dengan seramai 1,400 daripadanya membawa tumbuhan kumara. Kira-kira pada tahun 1450, mereka telah menakluki sebagai pribumi terakhir pada pertempuran Atiamuri.[1]
