Sir

Sir adalah sebuah gelaran dalam bahasa Inggeris yang secara formal dikaitkan dengan bangsawan.[1]

Istilah Sir berasal dari bahasa Inggris abad pertengahan sire, dari bahasa Perancis sieur, yang membawa makna "Tuan" dari kata sifat Latin senior ("yang tua"), yang dipakai untuk menyatakan penghormatan dalam banyak bahasa-bahasa di Eropah. Dalam konteks ini, bentuk yang sama untuk wanita adalah Dame.
