Sinaran Cherenkov

Sinaran Cherenkov (Bahasa Rusia : Черенко́в) ialah sinaran elektromagnet yang dipancarkan apabila partikel bercas (seperti elektron) melalui medium dielektrik pada kelajuan melebihi kelajuan perambatan gelombang cahaya di dalam medium tersebut.[1] Contoh yang biasa ditunjukkan ialah cahaya biru yang boleh dilihat pada reaktor nuklear bawah air. Punca sinaran ini terhasil serupa dengan punca dentuman sonik dihasilkan. Fenomena ini dinamakan sempena ahli fizik Kesatuan Soviet, Pavel Cherenkov yang berkongsi Hadiah Nobel dalam Fizik pada 1958 atas penemuannya.
