Serval, Leptailurus serval, ialah kucing liar Afrika bersaiz sederhana. Analisis DNA molekul moden menunjukkan bahawa serval mengekalkan keturunan uniknya tersendiri diwarisi daripada nenek moyang keluarga kucing seperti singa, dan walaupun serval berkongsi ciri-ciri dengan citah, sebenarnya citah yang mungkin berasal daripada serval purba.[3] Kajian DNA sama telah menunjukkan Kucing Tulap Afrika dan caracal adalah bersaudara dekat dengan serval.
