Pouter Inggeris adalah sejenis baka merpati hias dari kumpulan pouter. Pouter Inggeris sepertimana baka burung merpati yang lain dipercayai berasal dari burung Pergam Batu. Pouter Inggeris mudah dikenali kerana memiliki tembolok yang boleh dikembangkan. Ciri ini telah diperincikan oleh Charles Darwin di dalam buku beliau yang bertajuk The Variation of Animals and Plants under Domestication (1868).

Sejarah

William Bernhardt Tegetmeier telah mencadangkan bahawa Pouter Inggeris berasal dari pembiakan kacuk di antara baka-baka merpati tua seperti Cropper Belanda, Uploper dan Pouter Parisia. Setiap baka ini telah diperincikan bermula pada kurun ke-17.[1] Bagaimanapun, dalam buku yang sebelumnya, John Moore mencadangkan bahawa baka ini merupakan hasil dari pembiakan kacuk di antara jenis cropper dan horseman (kedua-duanya baka merpati pada kurun ke-18).[1] Historically, the English Pouter was also called the Pouting Horseman, due to the links with the Horseman breed.[2] Baka-baka cropper moden seperti Cropper Norwich, berasal dari Pouter Inggeris.[3]
