PopMatters ialah majalah dalam talian antarabangsa kritikan budaya yang merangkumi banyak aspek budaya popular. PopMatters menerbitkan ulasan, temu bual, dan esei terperinci mengenai produk dan ungkapan budaya yang paling dalam bidang seperti muzik,[2] televisyen, filem, buku, permainan video, komik, sukan, teater, seni visual, pelancongan, dan Internet.[3]

Sejarah

PopMatters diasaskan oleh Sarah Zupko, yang sebelum ini telah menubuhkan PopCultures tapak sumber akademik kajian budaya.[4] PopMatters dilancarkan pada musim gugur tahun 1999[5] sebagai tapak kakak yang menyediakan esei, ulasan dan kritikan terhadap pelbagai produk media. Dari masa ke masa, laman web ini pergi dari jadual penerbitan mingguan ke format majalah lima hari seminggu, berkembang ke ulasan tetap, ciri, dan lajur. Pada musim gugur 2005, pembaca bulanan melebihi satu juta.

Dari tahun 2006 dan seterusnya, PopMatters mengeluarkan beberapa kolum akhbar bersindiket untuk Perkhidmatan Berita McClatchy-Tribune.[6] Sehingga tahun 2009, terdapat empat lajur budaya pop yang berbeza setiap minggu.

Penerbit Buku PopMatters diterbitkan Joss Whedon: Companion Lengkap, disunting oleh Mary Money, dengan Buku Titan pada bulan Mei 2012. Cetakan ini juga menerbitkan empat buku dalam satu siri dengan Counterpoint / Soft Skull[7] pada 2008  – 2009 termasuk China Underground oleh Zachary Mexico, JApocalypse Jukebox: The End of the World in American Popular Music oleh Edward Whitelock dan David Janssen, Rebels Wit Attitude: Subversive Rock Humorists oleh Iain Ellis, dan The Solitary Vice: Against Reading by Mikita Brottman.
