Pesisir

Suatu pesisir ialah kawasan hujung tanah yang bersempadan dengan suatu badan air yang besar seperti lautan, laut dan tasik. Dalam oseanografi fizikal, suatu pesisir ialah perbatasan luas yang dipengaruhi sifat geografinya berdasarkan perilaku badan air pada dulu dan kini, sementara pantai pula merujuk kepada hujung pesisir yang mewakili zon pasang surut kalau ada.[1] Berbanding dengan pinggir laut, suatu pesisir boleh bersempadan dengan mana-mana badan air sementara "pinggir laut" bersempadan dengan laut atau lautan. Dengan itu, suatu pinggir laut boleh dikira sebagai sejenis pesisir. Pesisir dipengaruhi topografi sekeliling, termasuk hakisan air seperti ombak. Sifat geologi batuan dan tanah pesisir mampu mewakili jenis pesisir yang terbentuk.
