Papirus

Cebisan surat rasmi ditulis pada helaian papirus bertarikh abad ke-3 SM.

Papirus ialah sejenis bahan nipis seumpama kertas yang diperolehi daripada empulur dalam tumbuhan spesies Cyperus papyrus[1] (Ibrani: סּוּף, rumi: suf[2]), sejenis rumput liar yang tumbuh di paya delta Nil di Mesir.[3]

Ia lazim digunakan untuk tujuan penulisan dalam kalangan masyarakat Mesir Purba, namun ia juga ditemui pengunaannya dalam seberapa bahan lain seperti perahu, tikar, tali, sepatu dan bakul.[4]

Rerumput papirus tumbuh meliar di hulu Sungai Nil, Uganda.
