Nimfa

Dalam mitologi dan penceritaan masyarakat Yunani Purba, hutan belantara sering dikunjungi semangat berupa dayang iaitu nimfa (Bahasa Yunani Kuno: νύμφη, nýmphē; loghat Doria dan Aeolia: νύμφα nýmphā[1]).

Mereka diceritakan sering berkerumun di mata air dan mempunyai kuasa sakti seperti menyembuh sakit,[2] menilik nasib dan menjelma.[3] Mereka juga diceritakan menjadi pendamping dewa-dewi kuat - misalnya anak-anak Pleione yang menjadi pendamping dewi Artemis. Mereka diceritakan sering bersikap lantang dan sering menggoda manusia.[4][5] Hampir semua nimfa hidup abadi kecuali Hamadryas yang bergantung kepada pokok khusus.[5]
