New wave ialah sebuah subgenre dari muzik rock yang muncul pada pertengahan hingga akhir 1970-an selain punk rock. Istilah ini pada awalnya berkait rapat dengan punk rock sebelum dianggap sebagai genre yang berdiri sendiri yang menggabungkan aspek muzik elektronik dan eksperimental, subbudaya mod, dan disko, rock dan muzik pop tahun 1960-an. Sementara itu digabungkan banyak suara punk rock asal dan semangatnya, seperti penekanan pada lagu pendek dan punchy,[5][9] ditambah pula dengan kompleksiti yang lebih besar di dalam muzik dan lirik. Kebangkitan muzik ini bermula pada tahun 1990-an dan 2000-an. Pengkarya yang dipengaruhi oleh muzik New Wave telah menjadi popular pada 2004, dan genre kemudian berpengaruh pada gerakan rock indie.[10][11][12][13]
