Kaum Merina merupakan kumpulan etnik terbesar di Madagaskar. Dengan populasi sekitar 3 juta atau lebih kurang suku populasi negara, mereka bercakap dalam bahasa Melayu-Polinesia dan tertumpu kepada tanah tinggi tengah.
Nenek moyang mereka, orang Austronesia, berpindah dari Nusantara (Borneo, Sumatra, Jawa, Malaysia) sekitar permulaan era biasa. Pada hari ini ciri-ciri orang Austronesia masih kelihatan pada orang Merina.
