Magnetosfera

Planet Bumi sentiasa dikelilingi dengan medan magnet semulajadi. Medan magnet semulajadi ini turut menyebabkan kompas sentiasa menunjukkan arah utara Bumi. Medan magnet semulajadi ini (turut dipanggil sebagai magnetosfera), menjulang tinggi sehingga ke ruang angkasa akan menangkis ion-ion angin suria daripada menembusi masuk ke ruang angkasa (atmosfera) Bumi. Lapisan ini terletak di antara 3,000 km dan 10,000 km dari permukaan bumi, iaitu di lapisan termosfera.

Ketiadaan magnetosfera boleh meyebabkan angin suria mencapai bumi dan menggangu kefungsian alat eletronik.salah satu contoh adalah telefon pintar.
