Knight Bachelor

Knight Bachelor merupakan pangkat anugerah kesateriaan asas yang dikurniakan kerabat diraja United Kingdom kepada seorang lelaki atas sumbangan kepada orang awam baik dalam bidang profesional (seperti peguam dan hakim) mahupun kesenian (seperti artis dan karyawan). Ia adalah sebahagian daripada sistem kepujian British,[1] malah ia ,erupakan penganugerahan paling tertua[2] di mana ia telah lama wujud semasa pemerintahan Raja Henry III pada abad ke-13.

Lelaki yang mendapat kehormatan ini diberi gelaran "Sir" sementara isteri-insteri pembawa anugerah ini diberi gelaran "Lady" pada nama keluarga mereka[3][4][5] - misalnya, seorang John Doe yang dikurniakan pangkat aan dipanggil "Sir John" manakala isterinya Jane Doe diberi gelaran "Lady Doe". Tiada anugerah seumpaa yang diberikan untuk kaum wanita dan warga asing.
