Googol

Googol ialah suatu nombor yang bersamaan dengan 10100 (sepuluh kuasa seratus) atau 10102 (sepuluh kuasa sepuluh kuasa dua). Dalam kata lain, satu googol ialah angka satu diikuti dengan seratus angka kosong: 10,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000,​000. Secara sistematik, satu googol bersamaan dengan 10 duotrigintilion.

Istilah ini dicetuskan pada tahun 1938 oleh Milton Sirotta, yang ketika itu berumur 9 tahun. Beliau merupakan anak saudara Edward Kasner, seorang ahli matematik Amerika. Kasner kemudiannya melanjutkan istilah itu kepada googolpleks, iaitu sebuah nombor yang lebih besar yang mempunyai nilai 10googol atau bersamaan dengan 1010100, atau angka satu diikuti dengan sebanyak satu googol angka kosong.

Nama enjin carian, Google, diilhamkan daripada istilah ini. Ibu pejabat Google, Inc. pula diberi nama Googleplex, berdasarkan googolpleks.
