Gering

Gering ialah keadaan kesihatan seseorang yang tidak sihat, uzur atau sakit[1]. Perkataan ini digunakan dalam pertuturan dan persuratan dalam bahasa istana yang lazimnya merujuk kepada raja ataupun kerabat diraja. Istilah gering turut digunakan untuk menunjukkan kegeringan khusus seperti "gering hulu" yang bermaksud sakit kepala, "gering tengah" yang bermaksud sakit perut dan "gering bersalin" yang membawa maksud sakit hendak melahirkan anak.

Istilah "penggering" pula merujuk kepada keadaan seseorang itu sentiasa sakit atau juga merujuk kepada mantera yang digunakan menyakitkan orang.[2]
