Dux

Dux [duks] ialah gelaran menjawat lazim dipakai semasa zaman pemerintahan Republik Romawi merujuk kepada orang yang memimpin pasukan, termasuk orang asing, tetapi dux bukanlah pangkat tentera rasmi. Karya Commentarii de Bello Gallico nukilan Julius Caesar mengenai Perang Galia menggunakan istilah ini hanya bagi para jeneral Celt, dengan pengecualian bagi komander Romawi yang tidak memegang pangkat rasmi.[1]
