Debye

Debye (simbol: D) ialah unit bukan SI dan unit bukan CGS untuk momen dwikutub elektrik. Ia ditakrifkan sebagai 10-18 statcoulomb sentimeter. Dalam unit SI, 1 D adalah bersamaan dengan 3.33564*10-30 coulomb meter. Ia dinamakan sempena ahli fizik Peter Debye.

Unit debye masih digunakan dalam bidang fizik atom dan kimia. Momen dwikutub bagi atom-atom dan molekul-molekul adalah lazimnya pada tertib "unit atom bagi momen dwikutub elektrik" (Jejari Bohr darab cas asas), iaitu kira-kira 2.54 D. Unit-unit SI (contohnya, coulomb meter) adalah kurang bersesuaian kerana agak besar, kecualilah awalan digunakan pada kedua-dua unit (contohnya, 2.54 D = 8.47 fC·fm).
