Data (bentuk jamak kata Latin datum "pemberian; karunia; kurnia" terbitan kata kerja dō bererti "memberi...menganugerahkan"[1]) dalam penggunaan sehari-hari bermakna suatu pernyataan atau maklumat dikumpul dan diterima secara apa adanya hasil pengukuran atau pengamatan[2] suatu pembolehubah sifat maklumat diwakili berupa angka, perkataan atau imej.[3]
