Cusae (Yunani Purba: Κοῦσαι atau Κῶς; Qibti: ⲕⲱⲥⲉⲓ atau ⲕⲟⲥⲉⲓ)[2] dahulu ialah sebuah bandar di Mesir Hulu. Nama Mesir purbanya ialah qjs (varian qsy), mengikut konvensi ditulis Qis atau Kis, dengan banyak transliterasi lain seperti Qosia. Hari ini, pekan ini namanya El Quseyya, dan terletak di sebelah barat Sungai Nil di Kegabenoran Asyut.
Sejarah
Cusae ialah ibu kota nomos atau daerah ke-14 Mesir Hulu.
Kerajaan Pertengahan
Ia merupakan pusat pemujaan untuk Hathor dan juga tempat sebuah nekropolis, Meir, yang digunakan semasa Kerajaan Pertengahan untuk menempatkan makam bangsawan tempatan.
Kerajaan Baru
Pada awal pemerintahan firaun Thebes Kamose, Cusae menandakan sempadan antara wilayah utara Hyksos (Dinasti ke-15) dan kerajaan Thebes selatan (Dinasti ke-17).[3]
Zaman Rom
Pada abad ke-5, bandar ini merupakan penempatan Legio II Flavia Constantia.
Keuskupan
Keuskupan Cusae ialah sufragan kepada keuskupan metropolitan Antinoë, ibu kota provinsi Rom, Thebaid I. Achilles (atau Achilleus) ditahbiskan sebagai uskup keuskupan ini oleh Meletius dari Lycopolis. Seorang lagi, Elias, berasal dari abad ke-4 atau ke-5.[4] Theonas mengambil bahagian dalam Majlis Konstantinopel Kedua (553). Uskup-uskup kemudian menyebelahi pihak mazhab anti-Kalsedon, yang pertama ialah Gregorius, yang membantu Paus John II (III) dari Iskandariah di atas ranjang kematiannya.[5][6][7][8]
Kini bukan lagi keuskupan residen, Cusae disenaraikan oleh Gereja Katolik sebagai takhta tituler.[9]
