Bangsa Croat (Croatia: Hrvati, dalam Arebica: حرواتي) serumpun Slav mendiami negara Croatia, Bosnia dan Herzegovina, dan negara-negara sekitarnya dalam rantau Balkan sebanyak kitar 9 juta orang di termasuk diaspora seluruh dunia. Mereka banyak-banyak menuturkan Bahasa Croatia serta menganut agama Kristian beraliran Gereja Katolik Rom, budaya mereka dipengaruhi oleh baik budaya Barat mahupun Timur. Kerana pergelutan politik, sosial dan ekonomi, mereka bermigrasi ke seluruh dunia antara lain ke Amerika Syarikat, Chile, Argentina, Jerman, Austria, Australia, Kanada, Serbia, New Zealand dan Afrika Selatan.
Nama Hrvati terbitan Hrvat (dalam Arebica: حروات) serapan akar Slav Barat Laut *Xərwate metatesis kata akar Slav Umum *Xorvat turunan Proto-Slav *Xъrvátъ mungkin ditulis dalam Batu-Batu Bersurat Tanais bertarikh abad ke-3 yang diyunanikan sebagai Χοροάθος (Khoroáthos, juga terumi sebagai Khoróatos dan Khoroúathos).[22] Asalnya tidak pasti tetapi barangkali kuatnya dari akar Proto-Osetia / Alan *xurvæt- atau *xurvāt- bererti "pelindung".[23] Suatu bentuk lain nama Hrvat turut diabadikan dalam serangkap syair cinta ringkas bertajuk خيروات توركيسى Chirvat Türkisi ("Lagu Rakyat Khirwat/Croat") dicatatkan seorang jurubahasa Turki bernama Mehmed di Transilvania pada sekitar 997 Hijrah atau 1588 Masihi yakni semasa zaman pemerintahan Sultan Murad III.[24]
