Carthago[a] merupakan sebuah negara kota purba yang kini terletak di pinggir bandar Tunis, negara Tunisia di utara benua Afrika. Bandar ini penuh sejarah utama dari mulanya sebagai suatu petempatan didirikan orang Phoenicia di bawah pemerintahan Ratu Elissa Dido pada tahun 814 SM menjadi suatu kota makmur pada zaman Baharian klasik terutamanya sebagai pusat kerajaan Punik yang memerintah ke atas Laut Rum pada alaf pertama sebelum Masihi.[1]
Kemakmuran kota ini disaingi kota-kota Siracusa dan Rom dengan berlangsungnya beberapa perang dengan serangan ke atas satu sama lain. Serangan Hannibal dari Itali dalam Perang Punic Kedua membawa kemenangan kepada penduduk negara kota tersebut di Cannae dan yang mana kemudian memberi ancaman serius kepada keberlangsungan pemerintahan Rom di Itali. Selepas Perang Punic Ketiga, kota ini telah dimusnahkan oleh Rom pada tahun 146 SM. Bagaimanapun, orang-orang tamadun Rom membina semula Carthago yang kemudian menjadi satu daripada tiga kota paling penting Empayar Rom. Ia kekal menjadi satu daripada kota-kota terpenting Rom sehingga penaklukan Islam apabila ia telah dimusnahkan buat kali kedua pada tahun 698.
Tinggalan kota ini dijadikan Tapak Warisan Dunia oleh UNESCO pada tahun 1979.[2]
