Cacing kuap

Cacing kuap atau cacing melongo (Syngamus trachea), merupakan sejenis cacing gelang parasit yang menjangkiti trakea burung jenis-jenis tertentu. Kesan penyakitnya timbul apabila cacing ini menyumbat salur udara. Cacing kuap sering ditemui pada ayam dan ayam belanda yang muda lagi dibela jinak.

Apabila cacing kuap betina bertelur di dalam trakea burung yang dijangkiti, telur itu dibatukkan, ditelan lalu ditinja. Apabila burung termakan telur cacing yang terdapat dalam tinja perumah perantaraan seperti cacing tanah, siput (Planorbarius corneus, Bithynia tentaculata dan sebagainya), atau lintah bulan, maka ia dijangkiti parasit ini.

Ubat Ivermectin sering digunakan untuk mengawal jangkitan cacing kuap dalam burung.
